Corrections officer charged after alleged assault on MacDougall-Walker inmate

SUFFIELD, Conn. (WTNH) – A correctional officer has been charged after an alleged assault on an inmate in August 2023 at MacDougall-Walker Correctional Institution.

According to the police report, on August 12, 2023, correctional officers responded to a “Code Blue,” which is when a physical altercation occurs between inmates. After officers viewed video footage of the incident, they were able to determine one of the inmates was involved.

Correctional officers then approached the inmate’s cell and attempted to bring him to the Restrictive Housing Unit. The inmate then said prison staff forced him to the ground and began punching him. He also claims that he may have lost consciousness for a moment.

After an investigation, police were able to identify Officer Christopher Carlson, 33, as the person accused of hitting the inmate. Several witnesses told police they saw Officer Carlson punch the inmate in the face.

Officer Carlson was charged with third degree assault. His next court appearance is scheduled for July 12.
