Two dead Thursday morning in a head-on collision in Marion County

FLORENCE, Kan. (WIBW) – Two men were killed in a head-on collision in Marion County in central Kansas early Thursday, authorities said.

The crash was reported at 6:25 a.m. Thursday on US-50 just west of Union Road. The location was about 3 miles southwest of the city of Florence.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2017 GMC Acadia sport utility vehicle was traveling east on US-50 when it went left of center.

The Acadia then collided head-on with a 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe that was westbound on US-50.

The collision occurred in the westbound lane of the highway, the patrol said.

The driver of the Acadia, Travis Alan Flasschoen, 41, of Wichita, was pronounced dead at the scene. The patrol said Flasschoen was not wearing a seat belt.

The driver of the Hyundai, John M. Ireland, 71, of Cottonwood Falls, was also pronounced dead at the scene. The patrol said Ireland was wearing a seat belt.

Both drivers were alone in their vehicles, the patrol said.
