Ozark County woman charged with murder after boyfriend dies of injuries

Gainesville, MO. – On June 12, 2024, Shannon Collins, 49, was arrested after she threw her boyfriend from a moving vehicle, seriously injuring him. She was charged with domestic assault-2nd degree and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in bodily injury.

Collins just received additional charges after her boyfriend later died from his injuries. She is now charged with second-degree murder, tampering with a motor vehicle and leaving the scene of a fatal accident.

Mark Ault, 55, was the man killed in the crash. According to the probable cause statement, Collins was attempting to leave in Ault’s vehicle and when he attempted to stop her, she accelerated the vehicle and slammed on the brakes. This sent him over the hood of the truck, resulting in serious injuries. Ault was taken to Cox Medical Center South in Springfield for treatment, where he died of head trauma the next day.

This was not the first domestic dispute that deputies responded to at the residence. Collins is being held at the Ozark County Jail without bond.
