Anime fans come to Wichita for the festival

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Fans of the art form anime are converging on Wichita this coming weekend for the Wichita Anime Festival.

The event runs through Sunday at the Hyatt Regency Hotel. One of the big draws of the event is the cosplay competition.

“With the rise of costume contests and all the popularity, I’d like to help kids and young adults, anyone coming into the cosplay scene now to learn as much as they can,” said Mavey Wavie, who teaches at the cosplay competition.

Darman Ellison said he was there to play Ghostbusters.

“We’re here to spread the Ghostbuster word,” Ellison said. “Plus, the 40th was on the 8th, so it’s just an ongoing celebration.”
