Brewers Pitiful 6-4 Loss to Padres

During the first two games of a four game series, the Milwaukee Brewers lost 7-6 and 9-5 to the San Diego Padres. Milwaukee looked to even the series and win the final two games. However, the Padres had other plans, to take and hold second place in the NL West division. San Diego led 6-0 after seven innings of action, the Brewers rallied in the top of the ninth to score four runs, but it wouldn’t be enough as the Padres won 6-4.

In the next inning, Padres shortstop Ha-Seong Kim singled to left field to give San Diego a 4-0 lead. Two innings later, Padres catcher Kyle Higashioka smashed a two-run home run to left field. San Diego was now leading 6-0 and it looked like this game was all but over.

In the top of the ninth inning with outs and the bases loaded, Brewers second baseman Brice Turang hit a grand slam into left field to cut the Padres’ deficit to 6-4. In the next at bat, Brewers catcher William Contreras struck out Padres reliever Robert Suárez to end the game. With the loss, Milwaukee now has a 44-33 record. They have a five-game lead in the NL Central division. For San Diego, they are now 41-40, second in the NL West after one game and are seven and a half games behind the first place Los Angeles Dodgers.

Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Carlos Rodríguez pitched four innings. He allowed four runs on six hits while striking out two batters in the loss. Brice Turang went three for four with four RBIs. First baseman Tyler Black and third baseman Joey Ortiz also each had a multi-hit game, going two for four. This Brewers team needs to string together a few wins before the Cardinals get close to comfortable in the division.

San Diego Padres starting pitcher Randy Vasquez pitched five innings. He allowed just five hits and three walks while striking out three batters in the team’s win. Jackson Merrill went three for three with three RBI, while Ha-Seong Kim went two for three with one RBI. Even though each team had ten shots apiece, San Diego had more clutch opportunities and was able to pull away with its fourth straight win.
