Books make history, Twinbill sweeps in Corpus Christi

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – Cooper Hjerpe and Andrew Marrero combined to throw the first no-hitter in Springfield Cardinals history as the Cardinals swept a doubleheader over the Hooks 5-0, 4-2 on Thursday night at Whataburger Field in Corpus Christi. Springfield snapped an 8-game losing streak with the sweep.


Game 1:

W: Cooper Hjerpe (1-1)

L: Andrew Knorr (0-6)

Game 2:

W: Ryan Shreve (5-2)

L: Joey Mancini (0-1)

S: Matt Swanson (10)


The Cardinals allowed just one baserunner in their first doubleheader: a two-out walk by Jordan Brewer in the bottom of the third.

The Cards also went 6 innings of hitless ball in the April 5 season opener at Arkansas, but it was broken in the 7th on a leadoff double by Spencer Packard.

Springfield went 0 for 6 with runners in scoring position, but still managed to score 5 runs in the first game.

Cooper Hjerpe earned his first win in Double A in the first game no-hitter.

In game two, Trent Baker, Ryan Shreve and Matt Swanson combined to allow just one hit after the first.

The Cardinals collected 7 stolen bases in the doubleheader.

Springfield is now 7-3 in dual meets this season.
