WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) – One person is in the hospital after a shooting at a Wichita apartment complex that has been under surveillance for over a year.

The shooting happened at the Emery Gardens apartment complex, where a 33-year-old man was shot shortly after 11 a.m. Monday.

Police said the victim was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Several witnesses told police there was an argument that led to the shooting.

Lt. Brandon Lenzi of the Wichita Police Department said witnesses told him they heard one to three gunshots.

The shooting happened behind the apartment complex. The victim is believed to be a resident there.

Lenzi said they were able to gather information on the suspect early Monday morning.

Emery Gardens has been the site of several reported problems over the past year. Tenants showed KAKE News black mold, bugs, water leaks and even a collapsed ceiling.

City leaders tried to fix the problems by the owners, but not much was done.
