A Temple University student has been killed in what authorities are calling a domestic homicide, according to the Pennsylvania university.

The Philadelphia Police Department responded to a home near Temple’s campus around 4 a.m. Saturday, June 22, for a “medical emergency,” officers said.

Inside, police found the body of 20-year-old Milan Jones, who officers said died of “blunt force trauma.”

Details of what led up to the killing are unclear, but police said they arrested 21-year-old Tymir Lackey. Court records show Lackey was charged with murder, endangering another person and tampering with physical evidence.

Temple University did not go into detail about the relationship between Jones and Lackey, but said in a June 23 news release that the incident “was domestic in nature.”

Jones was to enter her third year in Temple’s nursing program, according to the university. Administrators referred to Jones as a “promising young lady.”

“She loved helping and caring for others, and her decision to pursue a career in nursing reflects just that,” university administrators said. “There was no doubt that he had a very bright future ahead of him.”

Temple University said Lackey, who is also a student at the college, was suspended immediately.
