PARKERSBURG — Thursday’s Summer Music Series concert at City Park will feature songs from country music legends.

Country Best in Class performs classic country and features Sherry Wilson Braid as Patsy Cline, Reinnie Leavitt as Loretta Lynn, Dave Roberts as Johnny Cash and Tim Wilson as Conway Twitty.

Local musician JP Chandler will open the show.

Artsbridge’s weekly summer music series runs from 6.30pm to 8pm at the City Park bandshell. The location of the rain is the horseshoe pit.

CFI Engineering and the City of Parkersburg are sponsors of Thursday’s concert.

Country Best in Class members are also active with other performing arts groups in the community.

Braid, a Wood County Schools nurse who has been singing since she was 4 years old, also performs with Track 9, a popular local band. She received the Actors Guild of Parkersburg’s Kahlil Award for Meritorious Performance.

Leavitt, director of cancer services at Camden Clark Medical Center, is a longtime performer with Laurel Creek, a bluegrass band, and has performed with the Southern gospel trio The Williams Family.

Wilson began singing in the third grade and has sung in school, church and college choirs and is an IT systems administrator.

Roberts, a singer since high school, served as sound engineer and facilities chairman for the Actors Guild of Parkersburg. He is vice president of information systems and technology at CU*SOUTH.

Braid organized the band about two years ago. She has performed as Patsy Cline since 2000 and believed that a group representing other country music legends would be successful.

Each member of the group has the talents and is a natural for the legend they portray, she said.

Braid and Leavitt were good friends on and off stage.

“It was a natural fit to cast her as Loretta Lynn,” Braid said.

Roberts has a voice that made him an excellent Johnny Cash, Braid said.

“I was right,” she said. “He’s a very good Johnny Cash.”

Wilson is Braid’s ex-husband.

“Tim is among the best tenors I’ve ever played with,” Braid said. “He’s an excellent Conway Twitty.”

The group will perform 18 songs of all hits by Cash, Twitty, Lynn and Cline, either all together, in duets or as singles. The songs include “Folsom Prison Blues”, “Hi darling,” “The Coal Miner’s Daughter” and “Crazy” by Cline.

“The Song People Ask Me To Sing All The Time” Braid said.

Songs to be performed in duets include “I will fly,” “It will be the unbroken circle” and “Daddy Sang Bass”.

Chandler is from Parkersburg and has been performing since the 1990s. He plays country, folk and light rock.

While the concerts are free, donations will be accepted.

Performances run from 6.30am to 8pm on Thursdays until August 22. Other acts include Band of Brothers, Insured Sound, Highway 7 Band, Back Porch Swing Band, Todd Burge, JP Chandler Band and Showcase of Bands from local high schools.
