FARGO — The Somali Heritage Celebration will be held Friday, June 28 from 4 to 8 p.m. in Broadway Square at 201 Broadway, Fargo. This event is free and open to the public, according to the event release.

“Join us in celebrating Somalia’s vibrant and rich culture,” the statement said. “This event promises an immersive experience at the heart of Somali traditions, showcasing the resilience, pride, courage and vitality of the Somali-American community.”

A range of authentic Somali food will be available along with hands-on activities to provide a “deeper understanding of Somali customs and traditions”.

“It’s a chance to showcase our vibrant culture, educate others about our traditions and build bridges of understanding with our neighbors,” said Fowzia Adde, executive director of the Center for International Development. “Through this celebration, we affirm our identity, empower our community and foster a sense of belonging in our new home.”

Attendees will be able to see an exhibition of historical artifacts and see traditional dances and musical performances.

Fargo Mayor Tim Mahoney will attend, according to the release, and plans to read a proclamation celebrating Somalia Day in Fargo at 5 p.m.

“Our community’s diversity and hardworking spirit have deeply enriched the local culture, strengthened the economy and fostered a sense of unity,” said Ahmed Makaraan, Eshara’s executive director. “As we honor our past and celebrate our present, let us continue to work together for a brighter future.”

Our newsroom occasionally reports articles under a “staff” moniker. Often the designation “staff” is used when rewriting basic news that comes from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and that requires little or no reporting. Sometimes this description is used when a story includes multiple authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If external sources are used, they are noted in the story.
