CARTHAGE, Mo. — A local law enforcement group — that some people may not be that familiar with — has a new member.

Joplin Police Chief Dr. Richard Pearson is now one of ten individuals who make up the Jasper County Mounted Sheriff’s Task Force.

He actually joined the group a few months ago after learning about it from Jasper County Sheriff Randee Kaiser.

He says he’s been riding for a few years and is looking for a way to get back into it.

The Mounted Sheriff’s Posse assists law enforcement in search and rescue, as well as volunteers at local parades and Civil War reenactments.

“My plan is to serve in whatever capacity the colonel here needs me to serve. I’m a team player and a new team guy, so whatever is needed of me is what I’ll do if we’re called upon. a search, I’ll be right there in the middle of it. If we’re called on for certain ceremonial duties, like a parade or something, I’ll be right there,” Chief Pearson said.

“We look for almost anything we look for. If you have a red shirt on like now, we’ll look for a red shirt in the water, in the trees. We’ll look for any sign we can find. If we can find you. And we found some good turnouts, good turnouts and some bad turnouts,” said Col. Millard Ram of the Jasper County Mounted Sheriff’s Task Force.

The group will add another new member next week.

Their next event is the annual 4th of July parade next Thursday (7/4) on Main Street in Carl Junction. It starts at 10:00
