Greenfield Recorder – Ahmad Esfahani: The Wonka-ology Debate

Frighteningly surreal is how easily certain fictional characters sat on the current state of American politics. Explore the two wings of our elite party system and maybe you’ll notice the ghosts of Veruca Salt and Violet Beauregarde drifting and dropping according to the winds of the disjointed collective mass of near-bankruptcy. Veruca, who has always expressed her displeasure when things don’t go her way, will eventually point to possessions and money as all they need in life. When pushed to the doorstep of the less wealthy, they will destroy everything in their path (no matter how much they initially say they want to be peaceful). Her counterpart, the scion of a used car salesman, seems to only want recognition and acceptance for their own personal achievements. While chewing gum might not be on the far left’s list of ways a person can be more diverse (but still equal), there are echoes of “please look at me” that indicate a lack of attention of the carer when it was probably most needed. How quickly one century turns into another, and how quickly exorbitant wealth breeds selfishness and individualization. Feeling sick about how much you have when others are on the streets: just book a spiritual retreat in Bali. Worry about globalists taking over our system of government: Throw your money behind a group of people who have excelled at naming their own self-interest as the backbone of a nation. Good luck in November, but where’s Charlie?
