5-year-old boy found dead after being left in car for several hours in northwest Omaha

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – A 5-year-old boy was found dead in a car Wednesday in northwest Omaha, according to police.

Officers responded to the area of ​​North 93rd and Binney streets just after 5 p.m. for an unresponsive child. Omaha Police Lt. Neal Bonacci said the boy was in foster care and had been in the car for several hours. He was transported by doctors to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Officials said the death was likely heat-related, but that the cause must be confirmed with an autopsy. According to 6 First Alert Chief Meteorologist Emily Roehler, Wednesday’s high temperature was 89 degrees.
