Wrongful-death lawsuit alleges baby died as a result of Springhill Medical Center’s negligence during cyberattack

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – In a lawsuit that has drawn national attention, attorneys for a woman whose baby died during childbirth at Springhill Medical Center say they reached a settlement with the hospital.

The lawsuit alleges the child died as a result of the hospital’s negligence during a 2019 cyber attack.

The mother’s lawyers say they reached a settlement in April, but the hospital refuses to pay. I’m asking a judge to order the hospital to honor that agreement.

The case has attracted national attention because it is believed to be the first trial of its kind related to a cyberattack.

Attorneys for Springhill Medical Center did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The judge has not yet scheduled a hearing.
