Mount Angel murder suspect arrested in Mexico

MOUNT ANGEL Hours. (KPTV) – A man suspected of killing a man on New Year’s Day has been arrested in Mexico and flown back to the United States, according to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO).

U.S. Marshals arrested the murder suspect, Agustin Barocio, 42, of Mt. Angel, in Mexico on May 24th.

A man was shot on Jan. 1, 2024, shortly before 6 a.m. near Pershing Street and Marquam Street. When police arrived, they attempted life-saving measures, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Barocio allegedly fled before police arrived.

A man with a long criminal record was found guilty of 31 additional charges Thursday by a Multnomah County jury that could carry him to life in prison.

The victim has been identified as Brandon Slack, 42, of Mt. Angel.

Barocio was identified as the subject of the investigation by MCSO. An arrest warrant was issued for first degree murder and additional charges.

No other details about Barocio’s arrest have been released yet.
