Six face robbery after man brutally beaten at WAWA – First State Update

Six people have been arrested in connection with a strong-arm robbery and assault that occurred at a Wawa in New Castle on May 30, 2024.

At approximately 2:51 pm, troopers responded to the Manor Park Wawa located at 1515 North Dupont Highway for a report of robbery and assault. Upon arrival, troopers discovered the victim had been confronted by three male and three female acquaintances while riding a DART bus. The argument continued as the suspects followed the victim off the bus and into the Wawa. Inside the store, the suspects assaulted the victim and stole his property before fleeing on foot, police said Friday. The victim, an adult male whose identity has not been released, was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries. First State Update has learned that at least one of the man’s eyes was swollen shut after the incident.

The suspects are identified as Chauncey Addison, 19, of Wilmington (top L), Ziare Drummond, 19, of Smyrna (top M), Aryanna Mercado, 18, of Newark (top R), Heaven Mancinelli, 18, of New Castle (Bottom L), Destiny Burkett, 18, of Claymont (Bottom M) and Jashawn McNeill, 18, of Wilmington (Bottom R).

Officers, along with officers from the New Castle County Police Department, conducted a search for the suspects. An officer located the suspects walking near Louise Road and Mark Drive. When approached, the three male suspects ran into a wooded area, leading to a foot chase. Jashawn McNeill was taken into custody after physically resisting police, according to police. The remaining suspects, identified as Chauncey Addison, Ziare Drummond, Aryanna Mercado, Heaven Mancinelli and Destiny Burkett, were located in a nearby neighborhood and taken into custody without incident. The stolen goods were recovered during the searches.

All six suspects were taken to Squad 2 and charged with multiple offences. The charges and subsequent charges are as follows:

Chauncey Addison was charged with 1st degree robbery (murder), 2nd degree conspiracy (murder) and resisting arrest (murder). He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2 and remanded to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $64,000 cash bail.

Ziare Drummond was charged with 1st degree robbery (murder), 2nd degree conspiracy (murder) and resisting arrest (murder). He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2 and remanded to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $64,000 cash bail.

Aryanna Mercado was charged with 1st degree robbery (murder) and 2nd degree conspiracy (murder). She was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to the Delores J. Baylor Correctional Institution for Women on $62,000 cash bail.

Heaven Mancinelli was charged with 1st degree robbery (murder) and 2nd degree conspiracy (murder). She was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to the Delores J. Baylor Correctional Institution for Women on $62,000 cash bail.

Destiny Burkett was charged with 1st degree robbery (murder) and 2nd degree conspiracy (murder). She was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to the Delores J. Baylor Correctional Institution for Women on $62,000 cash bail.

Jashawn McNeill was charged with 1st degree robbery (murder), 2nd degree conspiracy (murder) and resisting arrest (murder). He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2 and remanded to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $64,000 cash bail.
