LINDSAY, A 28-YEAR-OLD, WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL BY THE GROUP AND IS EXPECTED TO SURVIVE. POLICE TELL US HE WAS SHOT IN THE LEG TONIGHT. THE SUSPECT, NOW IDENTIFIED AS 25-YEAR-OLD RALPH BURNETT, IS BEHIND BARS HERE AT THE HAMILTON COUNTY JUSTICE CENTER. NOW, EARLIER, WHEN WE ARRIVED ON SCENE, THE AREA NEAR FINDLAY, WHERE THE SHOOTING TAKES PLACE, WAS ABSOLUTELY PACKED WITH KIDS, FAMILIES AND, OF COURSE, IN THAT CROWD, MANY FROWNED FACES AS WE WATCHED. O’CLOCK AND I HEARD BAM BAM, MAYBE, MAYBE FOUR BAM’S AND I LOOKED OVER THERE AND SAW A PERSON ON THE GROUND, BULLETS FLYING IN BRIGHT DAY, STEPS FROM FINDLAY MARKET ON A BUSY SUNDAY AFTERNOON, IN THE STREET ELM. OVER-THE-RHINE SENT A 28-YEAR-OLD MAN TO HOSPITAL. PEOPLE WORKING IN THE SHOPS ALONG THE STREET, DESCENDING THOSE CHAOTIC MOMENTS. HOW MANY PEOPLE WERE RUNNING LOOKING AROUND THE STORES THERE, PEOPLE RUNNING INTO IT. MANY PEOPLE CLOSE THEIR DOORS. JUST A REALLY CHAOTIC SCENE, ALL IN A KEY OF FAMILIES FOR 30 YEARS AGO LAUGHING, SEEING KIDS AND MARRIAGE AND PARENTS AND SEEING THIS HAPPENING AND THE PARAMEDICS RIGHT IN FRONT OF US, VERY, VERY. AND AS THIS ALL GOES ON, DISPATCH CALLS REVEAL MORE ABOUT THE SEARCH FOR THE SUSPECT, GETTING INFORMATION FROM WITNESSES. According to Cincinnati police, a shooting Sunday afternoon on Elm Street in Over-the-Rhine, across from Findlay Square, struck one. Police say officers were dispatched to the scene at approximately 2:38 p.m. after receiving a call for a reported shooting. The victim, a 28-year-old man, was shot in the leg, according to police. He was transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center and is listed in stable condition. “We were looking outside our shop window at the time and we heard bam, bam. Maybe, maybe four “bams” and I looked out. there and I saw a person on the ground,” recalled Bradley Hughes, who owns a store on Elm Street. Local workers describe chaos. “A few people ran, looking around the shops there, people running around, lots of them. of people closing their doors Just a really chaotic scene, all in a matter of about 30 seconds,” says store employee Gavin Taylor. Officers were later seen by WLWT crews actively searching the area for the alleged shooter. He was later identified by police as 25-year-old Ralph Burnette. Police say he was eventually apprehended after barricading himself inside a nearby church. Elm Street, which was previously temporarily closed in the area around Findlay Square, has since been fully reopened. little kids and strollers and parents and seeing this happen and the paramedics right in front of us, very, very worrying,” said Elijah Fidder, who was visiting the area with his family.
