ROGERS — Federal and state disaster response teams are in northwest Arkansas trying to identify needs following the storms that hit the region on May 26.

Roberto Baltodano of the Federal Emergency Management Agency said FEMA and the Arkansas Division of Emergency Management have teams on the ground in Benton, Boone and Marion counties. They go door to door asking what people need.

The federal agency has been coordinating closely with local officials, Baltodano said.

Lacey Kanipe, ADEM public information officer, urged residents to continue to monitor social media for updates on disaster relief efforts.

FEMA has opened a base of operations at Elmwood Middle School in Rogers, but agency officials stressed that people should not go to the location to seek assistance because it will not be available there.

State and federal agency officials say disaster recovery centers will open once locations have been identified.
