K-9 helps save man’s life by finding stolen phone

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) – A Union County Sheriff’s Office K-9 helped save a man’s life by finding his stolen phone.

Recently, UCSO deputies were called to the 1200 block of Fletcher Broome Road to help locate a cell phone that had been stolen earlier in the day from a Kannapolis man.

The phone was responsible for monitoring and maintaining his insulin levels. Locating the stolen phone and reconnecting it to the victim’s insulin pump was vital to ensuring he received the insulin he needed to maintain his health and prevent hospitalization.

After an extensive ground search of the large area around the location provided by the Find My iPhone app, the phone could not be located.

Deputy Slover and K-9 Pike were then called in for the search. After searching over 15,000 square feet of tall grass and vegetation, Pike successfully located the stolen phone.

Deputies then noticed numerous health alerts displayed on the phone screen indicating that the victim needed immediate insulin delivery.

Fortunately, the victim in this case is doing well and his phone was not damaged during the theft and subsequent recovery.
