The Conservative Association announced the selection of Meg Powell-Chandler as their candidate for the new Wells and Mendip Hills parliamentary seat during their meeting last Sunday afternoon.

West Country native Powell-Chandler says her campaign will focus on supporting local farmers, improving flood protection, improving education standards, expanding access to healthcare and increasing investment in infrastructure and local businesses.

Her professional experience includes significant roles at the heart of government, including positions in No10 Downing Street and departments such as Education, Communities and Local Government and Culture, Media and Sport.

Her experience, she notes, has equipped her with the skills to effectively navigate the complexities of Parliament and government to benefit the communities of Wells and the Mendip Hills.

On her selection, Powell-Chandler said: “I am absolutely delighted to be selected as the Conservative candidate for Wells and Mendip Hills. After spending weeks knocking on doors and talking to locals, they want an active champion who knows how to get things done. – and I will be just that.

“I will be a bold champion for local communities and businesses, working day in and day out to deliver for the people of Wells and the Mendip Hills.”

She is up against Helen Hims (Reform Britain), Abi McGuire (Independent), Tessa Munt (Liberal Democrat), Joe Joseph (Labour) and Peter Welsh (Green Party).
