The Big Dam Bridge 100 hosts charity rides and drives for Recycle Bikes for Kids

The Big Dam Bridge 100 is hosting a free group bike ride and charity ride on June 3 to support Recycle Bikes for Kids and is asking bikers, fans and other cycling enthusiasts to participate.

Recycle Bikes For Kids has been around since 2008 and has donated over 22,000 bikes to both children and adults.

The drive is scheduled to take place from 5:00pm to 7:30pm at the North Little Rock location (717 E 10th Street) and will accept new or used bikes that can be repaired as well as clothing donations.

The organization also accepts donations on Mondays from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM and the third Saturday of each month from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

“This is an opportunity to support and promote healthy activity and just the sheer fun that comes from jumping on a bike and seeing where it takes you,” said Bruce Dunn, event director of the Big Dam Bridge 100. “Donations can be anything bike that has collected dust – maybe your kids have outgrown it, or maybe you can’t use it much anymore because of injuries or a change in your physical condition. Recycle Bikes For Kids repairs them and distributes them to those in need.”

The evening ride will be led by coaches from the Big Dam Bridge 100 training program, followed by a meeting at the Recycle Bikes For Kids offices where they will be treated to refreshments.

Arvest Bank, a presenting sponsor of the Big Dam Bridge, will provide barbecue as well as beverages provided by Lost Forty Brewing. Subaru of Little Rock will provide prizes for the event.

The ride will begin at the Recycle Bikes For Kids location at 6 p.m. and travel along the Arkansas River Trail to Burns Park before returning to the starting point.

“It’s a great way to bond with fellow cyclists and support a worthy cause, and you don’t have to be a cyclist to join,” he said. “You can just come drop off a donation and join us for fellowship and food.”
