Rochester murder suspect arrested in Ohio

ROCHESTER, NY (WROC) — A man wanted by police in connection with a fatal shooting on Avenue D in Rochester was arrested Monday in Ohio.

Jose Caraballo, 54, was shot on May 3 and later died at Rochester General Hospital, according to police.

Investigators determined Caraballo was shot after an argument by Cesar Manuel Soto-Roman, who lived in the same Avenue D apartment building.

Police said Soto-Roman, 21, was already wanted on a weapons charge in San Juan, Puerto Rico. They said he fled Rochester after the shooting.

Soto-Roman was arrested Monday morning in South Euclid, Ohio. Investigators said he had a loaded gun at the time of his arrest.

Soto-Roman was taken to Ohio’s Cuyahoga County Jail on the Rochester murder and weapons charge, along with the Puerto Rico charge. Police say he will be extradited to Rochester.
